We at San Marino Congregational Preschool are dedicated to providing preschool aged children with a safe nurturing environment which allows the children to embrace diversity and grow socially, emotionally, creatively and intellectually at their own pace.
At San Marino Congregational Preschool, believe that children develop at their own pace. It is our job, as early childhood professionals, to provide a program which encourages this natural unfolding process for each child. The best way to do this is by providing a well rounded program using open ended materials with a multitude of hands on experiences. We provide a child centered curriculum in which a child can grow to be a well rounded individual . We focus on providing opportunitities for the child to develop intellectually, emotionally, socially and physically. We put a high value on each child’s individuality and creativity. Our preschool strives to prepare children for future successful school life by helping them learn to solve problems, get along with others, communicate effectivly and develop confidence.
In our school we use a published curriculum called Creative Curriculum. It is a developmental approach to the child’s learning and assessment. It is based on the most current research and standards in the field of Child Development. It takes into consideration the ways in which a child learns. It is our goal to make children lifelong learners by teaching them HOW to learn not just what to learn.
The curriculum we use addresses four major learning areas: Social/Emotional, physical, cognitive and language development. Each area is introduced to the children through play and exploration in learning centers. Each classroom will introduce ten components of classroom centers. They are: Blocks, Dramatic Play, Library/Reading, Toys and games, discovery/science, art, music, cooking, outdoors which will include sand and water. The teacher will be documenting each child’s growth through observation. The teacher will change the curriculum to meet the next benchmarks of development as each child shows readiness for the next step.
Curriculum for each classroom is posted weekly but is subject to change as the children’s interests are revealed.
Parent teacher conferences are held at least once a year to keep parents informed about the child’s school experience.
